Chamonix in Winter: Mountains, Trains & Mont Blanc Views

The Ultimate Non-Skier’s Guide to Winter in Chamonix, France. While it’s well known as a popular skiing destination, there is so much to see and do even if you don’t ski. Snow covered streets, dramatic mountain views, and a true winter wonderland atmosphere.

Getting There

During ski season, EasyJet run direct flights from Belfast to Geneva.

From Geneva, Chamonix is just a 1 hour 15 minute bus journey away.

I chose Swiss Tours, who offer transfers that can be booked independently, as well as organised excursions once you arrive.

Places to See

Aiguille du Midi (Cable Car Experience)

Take the cable car from Chamonix town up to 3,842 m for incredible 360° views of the Mont Blanc massif. Highlights include viewing terraces and the famous “Step Into the Void” glass skywalk. One of the highest cable car journeys in the world.

The Little Red Train to Montenvers

This iconic cogwheel train climbs the mountain in around 20 minutes, taking you to breathtaking views of the Mer de Glace glacier, France’s largest glacier.

It’s a perfect way to experience the mountains without hiking or skiing.

Relax & Unwind in a Spa with a View

To finish your trip, treat yourself to a visit to QC Spa Chamonix. The highlight is the outdoor infinity pool overlooking the Mont Blanc massif, an unforgettable way to relax after days of exploring.

The town centre is idyllic to walk through, with lots of spots to stop and enjoy some food or a hot chocolate.
